DUNWRITE AUTHOR SERVICES
Finding your voice, shaping your stories
We are Jennie and Steve Dunn, and have a strong passion for stories, both real and unreal.
Our personal interests span the genres between us - we both enjoy crime and history, while Jennie has a penchant for romance, and Steve for horror, fantasy and science fiction - but if a book’s well-written we will embrace the storytelling equally, regardless of its theme or style.
We have extensive experience in proofreading and story editing for authors who have been published both independently and through publishing houses (see TESTIMONIALS). Steve is also experienced in KDP Publishing for authors, both for eBook and paperback options.
We are also authors ourselves. Steve has four novels and a novelette published independently (which you can find here), and we are collaborating on a new series of Feel-Good Romance novels (beginning here). We know the blood, sweat and tears that go into crafting a tale, plus the joy of receiving accolades from people we don’t know.
Dunwrite Author Services understand what it’s like to be an author!
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
A comprehensive critique of how your story flows, including characterisation, narrative, style and so on.
Honest, encouraging feedback. We believe positive and constructive criticism is essential and while that includes saying what needs to be said about a work, it also means we aim to find your strengths and voice that belong only to you.
As an author, sometimes you can’t see the wood for the trees; we provide an impartial view of your story’s terrain.
This does not include story editing - typos, punctuation, grammar only.
Meticulous typo-spotting: we take care in our work and both have a natural eye that finds spelling and grammatical areas in published works all too often. This can become a curse...
Tracked changes will be provided in the returned file for you to see our work clearly.
Steve can finish the formatting of your final manuscript and create eBook and/or paperback options on the Amazon marketplace via Kindle Desktop Publishing for you.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Rates per editing submission*:
Proofreading: £1.50 per 1000 words
Story Editing: £3 per 1000 words

(*if you submit a further draft of your work, a further charge will be necessary. Each fee is for one read-through and response)
Rates for KDP Publishing
Upon request - depends upon specific requirements.
Cover Image creation can be available too - enquiries are welcome, prices upon discussion.
HOW SHOULD I SUBMIT MY WORK?
Don’t submit a first draft, send us what you have managed to finesse yourself thus far and is now ready for critique, in preparation for a wider audience. We want your final product to be the best it can be - this is your baby! - and in order for our reading senses to be on full alert we want to have a manuscript that sings with your voice and is something you are proud of. We’ll then help you shape it where necessary, ready to meet its imminent fans.
Get in touch via the CONTACT US page and we’ll reply asap with a request for a sample before committing to a confirmed quote and timescale.
If we all agree on the terms, the format we will need is a Word document file.
Disclaimer: we do not promise our services will lead to agent representation, publishing contracts, or high sales. We will, however, endeavour to provide quality work to help you on your way.
“I have used Dunwrite Author Services for story edits and proof reading support with both self-published and traditionally published books, which have subsequently featured in a number of Amazon bestseller lists. They provide a service of exceptional value, but the quality and timeliness of their work is also second to none.”
“As a small publisher, we don't have an in-house team to undertake proof-reading and editorial work and instead contract out this activity to get the best quality service for our authors. Several of our books have been handled by the team at Dunwrite Author Services and we would have no hesitation in recommending them to other small publishing houses and independent authors.”
“Steve was first a reader, then I learned of him as an author (I love his work!) and have had him involved on an editorial side since my second novel (and each one since!). I'm also proud to now call Steve a friend, having met him (finally) in person last summer. He brings a keen eye, a clever mind and an approachable tone to his editing work and I'm delighted to let everyone know about this wonderful service they are now able to launch to a wider audience. If you are a writer, and you need someone on your team, look no further––just don't make them SO busy I have to wait too long in the queue!”
